First Contact, Yearning, and Slow Burn

First Move

• A "first move" wasn't made until later, way after we had first became aware of eachother's existence. There are two instances that I believe can be argued as being the "first move", however, only one of them was successful and led to us to our talking stage.
• The first of these two instances occured on December 17th, 2023 (one year after becoming aware of eachother). Kheyla wrote an Instagram note complaining that she was still on campus, despite the fact that Winter break had already started for most. Her note said something along the lines of "I can't believe I'm still here [at Middlebury]" (Kheyla later revealed to me, after we started dating, that she had intentionally made that note with the hope that I respond to it). I saw this bait and decided to bite, I responded to the note with the text and the following conversation looked like this:
• "Hang in there" - Hector
• "thanks, i'm trying" - Kheyla
• THAT WAS IT
• In the time it had took Kheyla to respond to my text (50 minutes), I had second guessed the whole thing; I thought I was annoying her, I thought I was being a creep, I thought she was just responding to be nice, so what did I do? I left her on read and decided to never continue the conversation.
• Needless to say, this first move by me was unsuccessful.
• Luckily, God gave us a second chance, in the form of having Kheyla text me first.
• On October 31st, 2024 (yes, it took an entire year), I made a Instagram story post about my neighborhood in Los Angeles, and you can probably guess who swiped up and responded to that story post.
• Kheyla decided to make her move, and unlike the last time, an actual conversation sparked from this, and thank god for that.
• Important thing to note, at this point of time, I was taking time off of school, but Kheyla was still at Middlebury. Thus, at this point and for the next several months until December, we had still not shared an in-person interaction.

Talking Stage

• Our talking stage began immediately after Kheyla sent that text on Halloween of 2024. We wasted no time chatting and getting to know each other after nearly two years of basically silently yearning for eachother.
• We talked about any and everything for the next two months, learning more about each other and growing closer everyday (we texted nearly every single day since Halloween of that year).
• Eventually, we upgraded from texting to FaceTiming to casual phone calls.
• Finally, on one of our FaceTime calls, we began creating plans for our winter break. Again, this would be our very FIRST time ever interacting with each other in-person, and the first time would be a date.

First Date

• After plenty of planning, Kheyla and I had our first date. It went amazingly.
• Our date started early in the day because we wanted to maximize time spent together. I drove up to her house, nervous as all hell (just as she was). She stepped out of her little house and approached my car. GORGEOUS. STUNNING. BEAUTIFUL. Kheyla was wearing a cute orange cardigan, a plain black shirt underneath it, some blue jeans, and cute black shoes. Simple, but she looked amazing (as she always does).
• We greeted each other and started our date. Our first stop was a local CD shop, we browsed music together, with some chit chat, but it was obvious we were both very nervous. Naturally, we opened up more throughout the day.
• Our next stop was a museum, the MOCA in Downtown LA. They had a special "Climate Change" exhibition that day, which was the reason Kheyla wanted to visit. The art and especially the climate change exhibition gave us so much to discuss, we were having so much fun that after circling the entire museum, we decided to just sit down and talk for nearly a whole hour!
• All the driving, walking, and talking got our bellies rumbling, so we were off to our next stop: KBBQ.
